A mosquito season program for piney woods yards

Our mosquito season runs March through October here, so that's exactly when barrier treatments start and stop.

Mosquito pressure in Nacogdoches County tracks straight to our rainfall. April brings the wettest weather of the year at close to 4.7 inches on average, filling the low spots, ditches, and tree-hole pockets that show up across wooded lots near Lanana Creek and the tree canopy that lines most residential streets here. July runs hottest, averaging a 93 degree high, and that combination of standing water plus heat keeps mosquitoes breeding on a fast cycle all summer. Because our winters rarely deliver a hard freeze, the season doesn't shut off in October the way it does farther north. It tapers.

The Process

What happens each visit

  1. Walk the property. Tree lines, mulch beds, gutters, and any low spots or containers holding water get checked.
  2. Barrier treatment. Vegetation, fence lines, and shaded resting areas get treated where adult mosquitoes land between flights.
  3. Larvicide where water sits. Standing water that can't be drained gets a granular larvicide instead of a repeat spray.
  4. Container check. Buckets, saucers, and low-traffic corners get flagged for you to empty between visits.
  5. Reschedule for 21 to 28 days out, matching how long a barrier treatment holds through normal rainfall.

What makes mosquito control harder to hold

A single clogged gutter can out-produce an entire treated yard, since it only takes standing water and a week for a new generation to emerge. Dense tree canopy, common on older Nacogdoches lots, holds shade and humidity that let treatments break down faster than they would in full sun. Wooded lots backing up to Lanana Creek or a drainage easement get repeat pressure from a neighbor's untreated property, which is why we ask about adjoining lots at the first visit instead of assuming your yard is the only source.

A standard barrier visit takes 20 to 30 minutes for a typical residential lot. Larger wooded lots near the creek can run closer to 45 minutes. Event treatments are scheduled 24 to 48 hours ahead of the event so the treatment is at full effect.

Be realistic about this: we don't guarantee a mosquito-free yard during an active rain week. Barrier treatments knock down existing pressure and slow new breeding, but nothing stops every mosquito from a neighbor's yard from flying over your fence.

Common Questions

Mosquito program questions

How soon will I notice fewer mosquitoes?

Most yards see a real drop within 24 to 48 hours of the first treatment. It takes a full season cycle, usually 2 to 3 visits, for pressure to stay consistently low.

Is the treatment safe for pets and kids?

We treat vegetation and resting areas, not open play surfaces, and recommend staying off treated areas until the product dries, typically 30 to 60 minutes.

Can I book just one event treatment for a wedding or reunion?

Yes. The one-time event treatment is priced separately from the season program and scheduled close to your event date for the strongest effect.

Do I need this if I already have a quarterly pest plan?

Only if you're on Field Notes. Almanac and Full Canopy already include mosquito treatment in season.
